The Challenge

Navigating Fixed Wiring Infrastructure and High Costs

In today’s competitive and environmentally-conscious landscape, businesses are increasingly seeking solutions that not only improve operational efficiency but also contribute to their sustainability goals. For companies like HPH Group, a family-run business specialising in haulage and warehousing solutions, a significant opportunity lay in upgrading their existing lighting infrastructure. However, this was not a simple retrofit. The project at HPH Group required a comprehensive approach to address underlying infrastructure issues that would modernise their facility to meet UK standards.

Before partnering with LumenStream, the HPH Group’s facility faced two primary challenges. First, the existing lighting system was inadequate, with low lux levels and poor-quality sodium lighting that created a dim, orange environment. This not only made for difficult working conditions but also fell short of UK standards for a logistics warehouse.

"We were looking for an upgrade to our existing lighting and LumenStream came on board and offered us a cost-effective way of doing that with financial savings."

Second, the fixed wiring infrastructure was in a state of disrepair due to a history of poor work by previous contractors. This meant that a simple replacement of the light fittings would not suffice. The project required extensive rectification work to the wiring infrastructure before the new lighting could even be installed. This dual challenge of outdated infrastructure and substandard lighting presented a significant hurdle that required an experienced and knowledgeable partner to handle the job's complexity from start to finish. HPH Group sought a partner who would provide a comprehensive and cost-effective solution, with financial and carbon footprint savings being a key priority for the company and its customers.

The Solution

A Seamless and Comprehensive Upgrade

LumenStream’s approach was to provide a complete, end-to-end solution. The team began by conducting a thorough assessment of the existing system and the infrastructure. Based on this, they designed and produced a new lighting system that was tailored to the specific needs of the HPH facility, ensuring it would meet current UK standards for a logistics warehouse. This included the installation of bright, modern lighting that would transform the facility.

A crucial aspect of the project involved rectifying the fixed wiring infrastructure. Unlike a typical lighting contractor, LumenStream's team possessed the expertise to resolve underlying wiring problems, ensuring the new lighting system was built upon a secure and dependable foundation. This comprehensive approach prevented future issues and delivered a robust, long-term solution. HPH praised the LumenStream team as highly knowledgeable and experienced, noting that they managed all facets of the project, including supplying all necessary equipment and staff. This enabled the HPH group to step back and let LumenStream handle the work, describing the entire process as absolutely seamless.

The Transformation

A Brighter, Safer, and More Efficient Future

The transformation at the HPH group facility was profound. The project lifted the facility from a low level of lighting with poor colour quality to a much more modern facility with bright lighting that met UK requirements. The company has seen a vast transformation in all areas of the warehouse, with the facility now so well illuminated for their staff to work. This has not only improved working conditions but also enhanced safety throughout the warehouse.

"We basically stood back and let them get on with their work and until the end of the job, it was absolutely seamless."

From a sustainability standpoint, the results were equally impressive. The project led to significant savings for the company. According to the data, the HPH project has resulted in an annual saving of 42 MWh, totalling 126 MWh saved over the project's life so far. The project also improved the facility’s efficiency by 58.54%. This reduction in energy consumption is a clear example of how modern lighting solutions can make a tangible impact on a company’s environmental footprint.

Conclusion

The HPH Group project is a testament to the value of a comprehensive and expertly managed lighting upgrade. By addressing both the immediate need for improved lighting and the underlying challenge of a failing wiring infrastructure, LumenStream provided a solution that was not only effective but also highly efficient and future-proof. The transformation from a dim, poorly lit facility to a bright, modern and energy-efficient warehouse demonstrates the significant benefits that can be achieved when a business partners with a true expert in the field.
