The Challenge

Beyond a Simple Upgrade

Fedrigoni Self Adhesives sought to improve their workspace environment and enhance their commitment to sustainability. While they had already embraced LED lighting approximately ten years prior, the company recognised the opportunity to move to more advanced, efficient technology. This project was more than just a simple light fitting replacement; it was about leveraging the latest innovations to maximise energy efficiency and bring their lighting levels in line with modern UK manufacturing standards.

"The main priority was to improve the workplace environment for our colleagues."

The challenge was to demonstrate compelling return on investment, particularly since the primary lighting upgrade savings from moving from one LED generation to another would not be as significant as a full switch from traditional lighting.

The Solution

Cutting-Edge Technology with Smart Controls

To address Fedrigoni’s objectives, LumenStream implemented an advanced LED lighting system paired with integrated smart controls. This solution focused on key areas to generate maximum value. First, LumenStream installed cutting-edge LED fittings that were more efficient than Fedrigoni’s existing first-generation technology. The second and most impactful, part of the solution was the integration of new controls, including motion sensors and daylight harvesting photocells.

These smart sensors enabled the system to automatically adjust light levels based on occupancy and the amount of natural daylight, ensuring that energy was only used when and where it was needed. Additionally, the upgrade successfully increased lux levels to meet UK standards for a manufacturing plant. The project was executed with minimal disruption to Fedrigoni’s complex operations.

The Transformation

Measurable Results and a Brighter Future

The results of the project were immediately apparent and impactful. The integration of motion sensors and daylight harvesting photocells generated significant energy savings for Fedrigoni Self Adhesives. While the lighting upgrade alone provided a solid foundation, the added controls were the key to unlocking major improvements in energy efficiency. Beyond the measurable savings, the project transformed the working environment. The new lighting system not only met but exceeded UK standards for a manufacturing plant, creating a brighter, more uniform space that improves conditions for employees.

"Everybody on site couldn’t believe how quickly the installation went through."

Conclusion

The successful partnership between LumenStream and Fedrigoni Self Adhesives demonstrates the value of advanced lighting solutions. By upgrading to modern LEDs with motion sensors and daylight-harvesting photocells, Fedrigoni achieved substantial energy savings. The project also created a brighter and safer working environment, which received positive feedback from employees and brought the facility up to UK standards. This case study shows how smart, sustainable lighting can improve operational efficiency, reduce a company's carbon footprint, and enhance workplace conditions.
